Choosing a Spyderco model
The Delica and Endura are related folding-knife families in different size classes: the Delica is the more compact option, while the Endura has a longer blade and handle. Both are commonly offered with lightweight FRN handles and a back lock, though steel, edge style and other features depend on the specific version. FRN is fiberglass-reinforced nylon, molded into a handle that can combine low weight with textured grip. These designs suit everyday carry and general cutting, with the Endura providing a larger format for users who prefer more reach.
The Native 5 is another compact folder, available in different constructions. Native 5 Lightweight versions use an FRN handle and back lock; other configurations may use different materials or blade steels. The Para Military 2 is a larger, more substantial option. In a standard G-10 configuration, nested stainless-steel liners support the handle and a Compression Lock secures the open blade. The lock sits along the handle spine, allowing one-handed closing without placing fingers in the blade’s path. A four-position clip on many versions allows left- or right-side, tip-up or tip-down carry. The Para Military 2 Lightweight uses FRN scales and a more streamlined construction to reduce weight; its specifications differ from the G-10 model.
Materials, origin and warranty
Spyderco offers many blade steels across its range, and some model families come in multiple steel options. Steel choice affects characteristics such as corrosion resistance, toughness, edge retention and sharpening, so check the exact configuration rather than assuming all versions match. Handle materials also vary: G-10 is a rigid glass-fiber laminate, while FRN is a molded, glass-fiber-reinforced polymer.
