The name Dog Tag originates from the classic identification tag often used in military circles. Drawing inspiration from this, the Spyderco Dog Tag stands out as a unique creation in the world of folding knives. Compact, unconventional, and refreshingly different from the rest of Spyderco’s lineup, this knife is a true conversation starter. Designed by Serge Panchenko, it is based on his own custom work, now enhanced with hallmark Spyderco touches such as the iconic Round Hole opening mechanism.

The blade is crafted from CPM S30V powdered steel, delivering a well-balanced performance. Known for its excellent edge retention, corrosion resistance, and a fine balance of hardness and toughness, this steel—developed by Chris Reeve in collaboration with Crucible—ranks among the best for EDC knives. The stonewashed Sheepfoot blade features an atypical chisel grind, adding to the knife’s distinctive appeal.

The handle is built from solid titanium, with a ball-bearing pivot bar in the center to regulate blade movement. An aluminum bar at the top of the handle further defines the blade’s opening range. Since the blade does not lock, caution is recommended during use. Black carbon fiber/G10 laminate handle scales enhance durability, while all metal parts are coated with a sleek black titanium carbon finish for uniform style.

A lanyard hole adds carrying flexibility, making it possible to attach the Dog Tag to a keyring or carry it as a minimalist pocket companion. When closed, the knife measures just 5 cm—compact enough to disappear into your everyday carry.
