The Hultafors forged splitting axe with a 2.5 kg head is designed for splitting large-diameter firewood. The narrow yet thick blade fits into the gap between the wood fibers and splits the log in two under the power of its heavy weight. The hardened poll is used for driving a wedge.
The axe head is forged by hand from carbon steel. Multiple forging increases the density of the steel, making it very strong and capable of withstanding impact forces.
The long handle allows for powerful strikes. The handle is made from strong and flexible hickory wood, which effectively dampens the vibrations that occur when splitting wood. The straight shape with a slight expansion at the end is convenient for holding the axe with both hands.
