Ahti puukko knives
Ahti makes Finnish puukko knives for practical work outdoors, from carving and fishing to hunting. The brand’s designs combine shaped curly birch handles with traditional knife profiles, and the range includes carbon-steel models as well as selected stainless-steel versions.
The Tikka, Metsä and Vaara offer different blade sizes for different tasks. Tikka has a compact blade for detailed work, Metsä is a general-purpose choice for carving and outdoor use, and Vaara pairs a longer blade with a shaped handle for outdoor tasks.

Choosing a model
Blade size is a useful starting point when comparing Ahti puukko knives. Tikka has a 62 mm blade, making it the compact option for detailed carving, bird hunting and preparing small fish. Metsä has a 95 mm blade and serves as a traditional general-purpose knife for carving and outdoor work. Vaara has a 97 mm blade; its shaped handle is designed to provide a secure grip during use. These models share a traditional fixed-blade format, but their different blade lengths affect the control and reach they offer.
Blade and handle materials
Ahti models vary by configuration. The black-sided carbon-steel blades use a vanadium-carbon steel with 0.80% carbon and are hardened to about 59 HRC. Selected versions, including Metsä RST, use stainless vanadium-chromium steel, hardened to about 57 HRC. Stainless steel generally needs less attention to rust, while carbon steel should be dried after use and kept lightly protected when stored. Check the individual model details to confirm its blade steel.
The handles use curly birch, a figured wood that provides a shaped, comfortable grip. A linseed-oil finish brings out the grain and helps protect the wood from moisture and dirt. The leather sheaths have a protective insert to help keep the blade from cutting through the sheath. These material and construction details are model-specific, so compare each configuration when choosing.
Kauhava craftsmanship
Ahti knives are made by the Kamppila family in Kauhava, Finland. The family’s puukko-making experience informs the traditional forms and hand-finished details of the range. Ahti’s models are intended for practical tasks including carving, fishing, hunting and general outdoor work, with blade size and steel type helping distinguish the best fit for a particular use.
