Wästikivi sharpening stones

Finnish Wästikivi produces truly unique sharpening stones – versatile stones suitable for a wide range of cutting tools. Wästikivi’s natural stones are perfect for knives, axes, and other cutting implements. Phyllite, the base material of these sharpening stones, is a fine-grained metamorphic rock formed over millions of years under high temperatures.

Wästikivi products are genuine natural products. Phyllite is a dark, shiny rock mainly composed of quartz, feldspar, and mica. Such phyllite deposits have been found in Längelmänmäki, Västilä village. While the exact discovery date of this unique rock formation is unknown, oral history suggests phyllite stones were used for sharpening tools as early as the 1600s.

There are stones for every need. Narrow-tipped stones reach tight spaces, allowing precise sharpening, for example, of fishing hooks. Wästikivi’s stones work particularly well on high-carbon steel blades, but stainless steel blades can also be sharpened – just with a little more water.

Popular Wästikivi products include the versatile Backwood Stone E4, a double-sided (coarse and fine) sharpening stone that is compact, lightweight, and easy to carry on outdoor trips and adventures. The two sides provide flexible sharpening options for knives and various tools.

For larger knives, Knife's Bride is ideal – a trusted tool for many knife enthusiasts, compact, practical, and reliable. Neck stone K9 is a small stone designed to be worn on a neck strap, perfect for anglers or even for sharpening darts.

Wästikivi – unique natural products and pure Finnish craftsmanship. For all your sharpening needs.
