Wästikivi Scythe Whetstone "Oval" M14
The Wästikivi Scythe Whetstone "Oval" is an oval-shaped whetstone designed specifically for sharpening scythes. Its elongated shape makes it particularly comfortable and efficient to use on long, curved blades. It is equally well suited for sharpening axes, brush hooks, and knives.
Always use plenty of water while sharpening. The stone resists clogging, even when sharpening rusty blades.
When sharpening a scythe, pay close attention to the bevel angle. The underside of the blade (the side facing the ground during use) should remain flat, while the bevel is sharpened from the top side using circular motions with plenty of water. Remove the burr by drawing the flat side straight along the stone. A properly sharpened scythe will slice through even the finest grass stems effortlessly with a smooth, light stroke.
If the scythe has become very dull or the edge has nicks or other damage, it is recommended to first restore the primary bevel using a grinding wheel or a belt grinder before finishing with the whetstone.
Sharpening angle: A shallow edge angle is ideal for mowing fine lawn grass, while a steeper angle provides greater durability when cutting tougher, coarser vegetation.
Finish the edge with the traditional Wästikivi Scythe Whetstone, crafted from Längelmäki phyllite, for a razor-sharp and long-lasting cutting edge.
