Cold Steel Gladius Machete CS-97GMS

A practical tool for impractical uses. This is essentially a “Tactical Gladius” and I love how it’s a modern day upgrade to an old school sword - which I have used to slay many random objects in my garden. It’s moderately sharp as expected for a machete, the sheath is the best machete sheath I’ve ever had.

Poor, cheap plastic handle.

I bought this solely as an emergency self defense blade, to be kept is one place where I spend most time. I've had a lot of break ins, no encounters, keeping this lets me sleep peacefully.

Value for money like all Cold Steels which will serve its purpose very well. Out of the box it could use a little bit touching up to make it sharper (on both edges). It performs well as a machete although it should be handled with even more caution than other machetes to avoid any mishaps as it is double edged and pointy. Cannot baton with it. Did not even consider to strike a ferro rod. What I got essentially is a solid and dependable chopper for branches, brushes and even small logs albeit with a conspicuous point. You can alter your grip and edges when chopping if one side starts to get dull. Has not rolled or broken. Compared to other Cold Steel machetes I think that the best one all around in my opinion is the Kukri (which it also needed sharpening out of the box) but the Gladius design is what sets this one apart and gives it style points and a Whoa! effect. So now I can bushcraft or clean my garden like a Primus Pilus!! Let's be honest who would purchase a machete that is designed as one of the most legendary sword types of all time to use as a tool that serves a function that could be covered by any other machete. It's the gladius design that catches your eye. Are you not entertained ?
