Two brothers, Steinar and Sigmund Helle started knife production in the old forge at their farm in 1932. The first set of knives was sold on a long trip over the mountains on a bicycle! Today, Helle knives are sold all around the world, but just as then, much of the production is done manually. The philosophy remains the same: no machine can replace skilled craftsmanship. Craftsmen with extensive experience and knowledge still take pride in making each and every Helle knife unique.
The Helle Allmenn is a premium fixed blade knife inspired by traditional Scandinavian puukko design. It is made to be versatile, reliable, and comfortable to use — a knife that fits most hands and handles most outdoor tasks with ease.
The compact, precisely ground blade is made from Alleima 12C27 stainless steel, a proven choice known for its toughness, corrosion resistance, and ease of sharpening. The Scandi grind offers excellent control for woodwork, food prep, and general outdoor use, while remaining easy to maintain in the field.
The handle is crafted from dark-stained curly birch, dyed in rich red and black tones that create a distinctive flame-like pattern. Its ergonomic shape provides a secure and comfortable grip for a wide range of hand sizes. Each handle is unique, highlighting Helle’s refined craftsmanship.
The Allmenn comes with a vegetable-dyed black leather sheath, designed in a traditional belt-hanging style for secure carry and quick access. It complements the knife’s heritage and practical nature perfectly.
