Helle Wabakimi Sleipner knife
Designed by survival expert Les Stroud and built like a tank, the Helle Wabakimi is a compact outdoor knife that combines the knowledge of an experienced outdoorsman with Helle’s traditional knife-making craftsmanship.
The Helle Wabakimi was designed in collaboration with renowned survival expert Les Stroud. It is the final knife created as part of the Stroud collaboration series, combining the practical experience of a true outdoorsman with Helle’s decades of traditional Scandinavian knife-making expertise.
With its short and robust design, the Wabakimi is a versatile tool for demanding outdoor activities, bushcraft, and wilderness use. The knife features Sleipner tool steel developed by Uddeholm, offering an excellent balance between toughness, wear resistance, and edge retention. This makes it an ideal choice for a compact knife that is built for hard use in a variety of conditions.
The Wabakimi features a half-full tang construction, where the blade steel runs visibly along the entire spine of the handle but does not extend towards the user’s fingers. This design improves comfort when used in cold climates while also providing additional strength thanks to the thick and solid full-length tang construction. The spine of the blade is also suitable for striking a ferro rod.
The beautiful curly birch handle is hand-sanded into its final shape and finished with an elegant satin surface. The smooth and rounded shape provides excellent comfort during long periods of use without creating pressure points or hot spots. The tang is securely held in place with two thick brass rivets and a pipe rivet at the rear of the handle.
The Helle Wabakimi comes with a classic leather sheath suitable for belt carry.
The Sleipner tool steel blade requires a little more care than stainless steels. Dry the knife carefully after use and apply oil when needed. Prolonged exposure to moisture or humidity may cause the blade to develop rust.
