Microtech knives
Microtech makes automatic OTF knives, manual folding knives and fixed blades. Its designs range from everyday-carry folders to larger utility patterns, with materials and features that vary by model and configuration. Choosing a blade style
The Ultratech is Microtech’s established Out The Front (OTF) design: its blade extends from and retracts into the handle. The current Gen III ZBP configuration measures 8.54 inches overall, with a 3.55-inch blade, and uses a 6061-T6 aluminum handle. Its Zero Blade Play, Crud Kutter and Dual-Fuel Drive Train features are specific to this generation, rather than shared across all Microtech knives.
The MSI and SOCOM Elite are manual folders for shoppers who prefer a blade opened by hand. The MSI uses Microtech’s RAM-LOK bar lock, a crossbar-style locking mechanism, and has an 8.93-inch overall length with a 3.88-inch blade in the listed configuration. The SOCOM Elite Manual is a larger folder, measuring 9 inches overall with a 4-inch blade; Microtech describes its handle shape as designed to fit the hand. Choose between models based on preferred size, opening system and lock design.
Materials and intended use
Materials differ across models and even among configurations. The specified MSI version pairs an M390MK steel blade with a high-strength polymer handle reinforced by hardened steel liners, while other MSI versions may use different handle materials. The specified Ultratech Gen III ZBP has a 6061-T6 aluminum handle. Check each configuration’s details when comparing blade steel, edge style and finish.
Unlike the folders, the Akris is a fixed-blade hunting knife, intended for detailed cutting such as skinning and processing game while retaining strength for more demanding field tasks. The listed Akris configuration has a black G-10 handle and a leather sheath. Its fixed construction suits users who do not need a folding mechanism.
