The ABC of Knives (ENG)
Zytel sheath for S1 knives
Choosing the F1, S1 and A1
These three fixed-blade models share a survival-knife role but differ in size. The F1 is the most compact, making it easier to carry while retaining a useful blade for outdoor and field tasks. The S1 sits between the others, with more blade length for longer cuts and general camp work. The A1 is the largest, suited to users who want more reach and a larger knife for demanding outdoor tasks. Choose by the size and cutting reach you need, and check the exact version for its specifications.
Steel and handle options
Fällkniven offers these models in different versions, and steel can vary accordingly. Its range includes laminated constructions, in which a central edge steel is joined to stainless outer layers, as well as solid steels such as Elmax. This means shoppers should check the exact model and configuration rather than expect one steel across the F1, S1 and A1 families. Some versions use Thermorun handles, a rubber-like synthetic material that the maker describes as resistant to water, weather and common chemicals. Handle materials also vary across the broader range.
Other knives and company background
Fällkniven also makes folding knives and chef’s knives alongside its fixed blades. Folding models use liner-lock, lock-back or slip-joint mechanisms, depending on the knife; these differ in how they hold the blade open. The company is a Swedish family business founded in 1984, and it began developing its own knives in 1987. This background helps explain its focus on purpose-designed knives, but does not mean every knife is made in Sweden.
