Knives for different carry needs
Prometheus Design Werx’s knife range includes folders and fixed blades with distinct carry roles. The Griffin is a skeleton-style fixed blade: its one-piece construction has no separate handle scales, keeping its profile slim for pack carry and general wilderness cutting. The first edition used Böhler M390 steel and a stonewashed finish. Its spine includes a Strikeback feature for striking a ferrocerium rod, and the handle end combines a nail puller and pry tip. These features distinguish it from a conventional cutting-only fixed blade.
The Invictus is a folding-knife design for everyday carry. Its family includes different profiles and locking systems, including the slimmer-profile SP, compact C, and integral-lock IL and IBL versions. Compare them by size, lock design and carry preference rather than assuming every version has the same construction. The design uses a spearpoint blade, and documented versions have used Böhler M390 or CPM MagnaCut steel. Some Invictus configurations feature titanium construction; materials and details vary by maker and edition.
Beyond knives
Prometheus Design Werx also develops technical apparel, bags, accessories, EDC tools and equipment. This broader range serves shoppers looking beyond blades for clothing and carry gear. Check each product’s specifications when comparing materials, fit, capacity or features, as these depend on the individual design.
Design and manufacturing
Prometheus Design Werx is a U.S.-based independent design studio co-founded in 2014 by Patrick Ma and machinist and engineer Chris Whitney. The company prototypes and evaluates designs in its workshop, then selects manufacturing partners to produce them. It says it keeps production in the United States whenever possible, and that many core products are made in California. Manufacturing location is product-specific, not a brand-wide assumption. This design-led approach matters when comparing products: some knife editions are collaborations with specialized makers, while the wider collection spans multiple equipment categories.
