CRKT knives

CRKT (Columbia River Knife & Tool) makes folding knives and fixed-blade knives through collaborations with knife designers and makers. Founded in 1994, the company is known for designs such as the M16 and for mechanisms including Field Strip and Kinematic. Steel, handle materials and construction vary by model and configuration.

The M16 and Pilar are folding knives for everyday carry, with different blade shapes and opening designs across versions. The compact Minimalist is a fixed-blade series offered in several blade profiles for practical cutting tasks at home or outdoors.

Designs for different carry styles

CRKT develops knives in collaboration with designers and makers. Its M16, Pilar and Minimalist families offer distinct approaches to everyday and general-purpose cutting. M16, designed by Kit Carson, is a folding-knife series with a flipper opening. Models differ in blade shape, size, steel, handle materials and locking details, so check each configuration when comparing options. Larger versions offer more blade and handle length, while smaller variants suit more compact carry.

The Pilar, designed by Jesper Voxnaes, is a compact folding knife with a straightforward profile for routine cutting tasks. Pilar III configurations include a D2 blade and a handle combining G10 with stainless steel. D2 is a tool steel with high wear resistance and some corrosion resistance; it needs care to limit corrosion. The frame lock uses part of the handle to secure the open blade. Other Pilar versions may use different materials or details, so specifications are model-specific.

Compact fixed blades and materials

The Minimalist, designed by Alan Folts, is a compact fixed-blade series. Its different blade profiles let customers choose a shape suited to their preferences and typical cutting tasks, whether around the home or outdoors. Materials vary: for example, one Drop Point configuration uses 154CM steel and a resin-infused fiber handle, while other versions have different combinations. 154CM is a stainless steel used in several CRKT knives; blade steel affects edge retention, corrosion resistance and sharpening needs. Compare the exact model for its blade profile, steel, handle and included sheath.

CRKT was founded in 1994 and has developed named mechanisms such as Field Strip and Kinematic alongside its designer collaborations. These technologies appear on particular models, not across the entire range. Across all three families, confirm the specific model and generation before choosing, since features and construction can change between configurations.
