The well tested and proven rock solid all round Gerber strongarm just with an even tougher super steel. You cannot go wrong with this knife as long as it fits your purpose. This will be great but not excellent at most tasks (a JOAT= jack of all trades). Master of none but very capable in most scenarios. One that was designed as a tactical knife but became the choice of both outdoor folks as well as the choice for a bugout or apocalypse knife. Good enough for food prep in the wild. I process all kinds of food with mine just fine. No paper slicing of tomatoes but then again - if you want to shine as a master chef creating pergament sheets of fragile vegetables, you should stay in the kitchen. Outdoor food is meant to be more primitive and not like an episode of master chef where qourmet snobs and picky restaurant intellectuals impose supremacy of knowledge to a mob of peasants wowing the unobtainable. Decent for carving, batoning, prying, stabbing, fighting and general tasks. Use a knife as a knife, an axe as an axe, a hammer for hammering and a crowbar for prying. You would not want to break your knife batoning in a survival situation would you? Neither would you want a 1095 rusty carbon steel to give you blood poisoning by accidentially cutting your finger, so prioritize corrosion resistance over toughness for survival. Only a fool would spend all his precious energy batoning and building log cabins in a survival situation where energy and food is scarce etc. So: The strongarm is a good allrounder for most stuff. This knife will not fail or break on you unless you use it for something that a knife is not designed for; Idiotic neanderthal behaviour Overall a 5 star rating for me, all considered= Not being a carving knife, bushcraft knife etc. but still usable in most scenarios and with a super steel that is both really tough, highly corrosion resistant and with pretty good edge retention as long as it is hardened well and in the 62-64 rockwell range. Shortcomings/4 star points: Quality and materials= the soft rubberized handle gets worn and will eventually rip or crack and starty to fall/peel off at some point i assume. The knobs on it already has worn down a little just by rubbing on my clothing while moving/walking with it on my belt. The sheath is not very thick and sturdy/solid. The hanging points for the nylon strops are thin and the material could be better and thicker. Will bend or crack if stressed too much I am sure. All plastic do - glass reinforced or not. One can make a leather sheath for it at a low cost if deemed necessary though. I am considering just that.
