Böker

Started from a small hardware factory of the Böker family in Germany in the 17th century, Böker became famous in 1869 when they launched their tree-brand knives developed in cooperation with the well-known cutlery-expert Hermann Heuser. The history of Böker has been affected by eventful times, but two things remained: passion and enthusiasm for extraordinary knives. Böker was one of the first companies to offer ceramic knives as a featured product line.

Description

Brandnew and already set be a true classic. The design of knife maker W.C. Davis from Missouri, US, stands out for the traditional drop point blade whose shape has proven successful in the areas of hunting and outdoor for decades. The stainless steel tang and bolsters carry scales of green canvas Micarta which provides an excellent grip even under wet conditions. The red fiber inlays create an attractive contrast to the polishes steel. The Zwischenstück is equally made of Micarta and the blade steel is the high-quality N690BO which offers a particularly strong cutting ability. Another special aspect is the slim-line construction of the knife. The thickness of the handle above the bolsters is only 11 mm and approximately 14 mm at the largest part of the scales, so the knife can be comfortably carried inside your pocket despite its particular ergonomics.

Having used this knife a few times, I have updated my review. In general a fairly well made knife. Came sharp out of the box and with a little work using a ceramic hone and a strop, I could easily get the blade to "shaving sharp". A couple of things I really don't like. The blade, when open, is not as secure as I would expect and there is considerable lateral movement if I grip the blade and move it from side to side. There are visible gaps between the blade and frame, allowing for this excessive play; this is totally unacceptable in a knife of this price. Secondly, when closed, the blade can far too easily be pressed inward so the edge contacts the micarta insert, meaning there is a risk to dull the edge near the point. Just not happy with this and if there was an easy way to return this knife, I would.
