Juha Perttula Village Smith Puukko
Description
Old times village blacksmiths made many kind of forging jobs including puukko blades. Blacksmiths also made handles, but they did not make leather works. Thus, puukkos were often sold without a sheath.Village smith puukko did not have bolsters. Blades and handles were individually fitted together by burning a hole into the wood with the red hot tang, and after hardening, the tang was strictly hammered into the hole. (today epoxy is used).
Blade:
80CrV2 double hardened (edge 63 HRC, spine 50 HRC) blade. The 3" (75 mm) long and 1/8" (3.3 mm) thick blade has wood carving V grind. The hidden tang has slots and it is epoxy glued into the handle.
Handle
The 4" (105 mm) long birch handle is treated with lampblack and linseed oil. The finishing is rough and brutal.
Sheath
The puukko is sold without a sheath
