Durable and multipurpose knife with Vanax steel blade

A Finnish knife maker JT Pälikkö undeniably belongs to the club of Finland's most innovative knife manufacturers. Amidst maritime archipelago landscapes, visions emerge, resulting in increasingly magnificent and imaginative knives.

The blade of the Scandi knife draws inspiration from Japan. The Unokubi-Zukuri style, found in local katana swords, refers to the geometry of the blade, originally intended to lighten and balance the Naginata, a traditional Japanese polearm. A characteristic feature of Unokubi-Zukuri is the strongly tapered "shinogi-ji"; the flat part of the blade. Thus, the back of the blade narrows at the shinogi-ji, making it thinner and lighter.

It's a clever solution to incorporate this structure into an otherwise typical Scandi knife (blade length: 10 cm). In this knife, the blade is double-edged, further enhancing its usability.
The steel used in this knife is cryo-hardened Vanax steel. As a result of the hardening process, the blade is quite hard yet does not compromise much on toughness. However, the most notable feature of the powdered steel, containing generous amounts of chromium and nitrogen, is its excellent resistance to corrosion.

The handle of the knife is made of durable and resilient thermoplastic POM (acetal), capable of withstanding various conditions, meticulously crafted by hand with texturing and engraving. The handle is adorned with a roughened plastic veneer. The bolster is brushed titanium. The ergonomically pleasing design ensures a comfortable grip, and the non-slip material helps the knife stay secure even in wet conditions.

The knife comes with a heavy-duty ambidextrous leather sheath with suede leather liner, suitable for both right- and left-handed users, equipped with a fixed split belt loop.

JT Pälikkö's Scandi knife is sure to please knife collectors and enthusiasts of Japanese sword and blade culture alike. It's the kind of knife you want to showcase proudly in your collection. Of course, nothing prevents one from putting this weather and condition-resistant knife into use.
