This design helps the axe to go fast into the wood - and then split efficiently when the thicker part hits and pushes apart the wood. The poll of this axe, like the poll on most axes, is not designed for pounding on a wedge.

I am 6ft tall and this axe is the perfect length and heft for me. Straight grain on the handle and excellent fitmanship of the head and overstrike collar as would be expected. The handle may be a tad thick for some. It splits very, very well.

Had thought about getting one of these for some time but couldn't really justify it. Recently I moved to New Zealand and have just a wood burner for heating. It is superb - fantastic design, beautifully made with quality materials. Service from Lamnia could not have been better, everything they claim on the website was fulfilled and at an extremely good price. Very impressed in every way.
