Tommi Mäkelä Taskupuukko

Fabulous knife.

Beautifully made little knife although it doesn't conform to the "3 finger" definition of Taskupukko described in Nordiska Knivar. It has a full 4 inch (103mm) handle that is quite chunky. In fact I believe the 1.08 inch width and 1.28 inch depth (26.5mm x 32.5mm) are among the heftiest in my entire puukko collection! However I spend time carving spoons and found that the big handle pairs well with the short blade and allows me to get a firm and comfortable grip with my thump on top of blade and yet my fingers remain an inch from the blade tip. Combined with the deep belly of the blade tip this gives excellent leverage and control when gouging out the bowl. I combined the taskupuukko with the Visa Puukko also by Tommi Mäkelä and the pair make a first class wood carving set. Highly recommended!

The collaboration between Tommi Makela and Saku Honkilahti made a perfect Taskupuukko! Love the x-cut curly birch, nice sized handle for such a little carver. The Saku hand forged 80crv2 blade is beautiful and the overall package is exactly what I wanted. The sheath is awesome too! Would buy another one 100%. Thank You Lamnia!!!!
