This is a very unique style. The designer Jerry Van Cook is a well-known name in the world of knives. Writer and training expert with 35 plus years of martial arts training, including a 7th Degree Black Belt in Bei-Koku Aibujutsu. This design is very well thought out and executed by a man that spent many years in Law Enforcement and the majority of it undercover. Jerry is a recognized author, "Going Undercover" is only one of some 40 books written by him.
Jerry's experiences have enabled him to be an accomplished instructor in self-defense, and he has also authored a specific booklet called "Sweet Sixteen", which is 16 easy ways apply effective close quarters knife defense techniques.
