The quality is evident throughout the entire knife. It is balanced and sturdy in your hand. The blade is solid and functional as well.

I usually don't care for upmarket puukkos. They tend to be works of art without being better tools. But this is different. In using RWL-34, Risto Mikkonen leaves the path of traditional carbon steel for a powder metallurgical stainless steel. This raises the price, but you do get excellent properties, and don't have to worry about rust. The blade is thicker than most puukko blades and the scandi grind starts at the middle. This is a sturdy blade, which is razor sharp nevertheless. Birch bark handles are my favorite handles, feeling warm in the hand and never slippy, and this is my favorite birch bark handle so far. I don't know how it's been treated, but it's a joy to hold. The sheath is well made without being unnecessarily fancy (though I do understand the stitching is special). An excellent knife in every way, and worth the higher price.
