Erik Nylund Puukko 182, scrimshaw
This stunning knife by Erik Nylund leaves nothing to be desired in terms of visual appeal and technical craftsmanship.
The Damascus steel blade is paired with a stylized elforyn handle, adorned with a dragon motif engraved using the intricate Scrimshaw technique.
This labor-intensive and precise process involves multiple steps and a steady hand. Once the design is engraved into the material with a tool, the carved lines are rubbed with ink. The excess ink is then wiped away, and the surface is polished. Colors can be added using different inks and pigments. Sometimes, Scrimshaw is finished with a clear sealant to protect the engraving. Traditionally, Scrimshaw was done on ivory, but as the use of ivory is now prohibited, the technique is applied to synthetic materials.
This showcase-worthy knife by Erik Nylund is sure to impress friends and fellow collectors alike.
