I've collected quite a few knives over the years, but every once in a while, one comes along that reminds me why I enjoy this hobby so much. The CIVIVI Vision FG with its Damascus blade and ivory G10 scales is one of those knives.
First, the looks. The Damascus pattern is absolutely gorgeous, especially against the understated ivory G10 scales. It's an elegant combination that manages to look both sophisticated and aggressive. I've considered upgrading to titanium scales, but the original combination looks so good that I'm reluctant to change anything.
The blade is exceptional. Mine arrived incredibly sharp, with a polished, almost frictionless cutting edge. It glides through paper effortlessly and slices tomatoes beautifully. I've owned knives with more aggressive, toothy edges, and those have their advantages, but this blade demonstrates that there is more than one way to achieve outstanding cutting performance.
The Superlock is another highlight. It's clever, strong, and wonderfully fidget-friendly. Initially, I found the spring tension a little challenging. But with regular use, my finger adapted, and operating the knife became considerably easier. Interestingly, I don't think the spring actually softened. I simply got better at using it.
If I have one minor criticism, it's the acoustics. I've heard other Vision FGs make a wonderful, crisp metallic click when closing. Mine closes with more of a subdued thud. It doesn't affect performance, but for someone who appreciates the mechanical experience of a good folding knife, sound is part of the enjoyment.
What impresses me most is the overall package. The design, materials, blade performance, locking mechanism, and sheer enjoyment of handling it come together remarkably well. It's a knife that feels special without requiring an outrageous investment.
I've reached the point where I don't necessarily consider one excellent knife better than another simply because it cuts differently or costs more. There are different kinds of excellence, and this CIVIVI has a personality all its own.
My verdict: A solid 10 out of 10. Beautiful, functional, addictive to operate, and an outstanding value. I own plenty of knives, but this is one I keep wanting to pick up and admire.
And yes, I've become rather attached to it. I affectionately call it "My Love So Sweet."
Don't judge me. I'm a knife collector.
Customer service deserves special recognition. My shipping experience didn't go quite as planned, but the way the situation was handled impressed me. The customer service team was responsive and helpful, and I received credits to compensate for the trouble. Shipping problems happen, but how a company responds when things go wrong tells you a great deal about its commitment to customers. In my case, they turned a negative experience into a positive one, and that deserves recognition.
