The Spyderco Native 5 features top-grade steel. Developed in collaboration between Crucible and knife expert Chris Reeve, this steel blend offers advantages that have earned it a reputation as one of the world’s best steels for EDC knives. The high-carbon and chromium alloy, enhanced with molybdenum and vanadium, provides the Native 5 with an excellent combination of wear resistance, edge retention, and corrosion protection. Despite its hardness (HRC 58–61), the steel remains relatively tough.

In addition to premium steel, Spyderco relies on proven mechanisms. The blade opens quickly with one hand via the Round Hole thumb opening. The Leaf-shaped blade favored by Spyderco is back again, along with full-flat grinding.

The handle is made of stainless steel, with a strong and reliable Back Lock system. G10 composite ensures the handle is impact- and weather-resistant. A four-position pocket clip provides versatile carry options.
