Absolutely the best splitting axe for its size and weight class. I had the small forest axe and found it just too small and light to do anything but side splitting tasks with 2”-4” diameter limbs. And some light chopping of course. It sucked though at splitting larger pieces. This axe has a 2lb head and is 23.25” total length. It can be held with one hand and it chops incredibly well. The lower part of the handle comes in a rough finish for a better grip feature. Of course I sanded it smooth and layered it in Lin Seed oil. I polished up the angled part of the head as well. It looks like it’s worth every penny now. I was going to get the Hultafors Classic Hunters axe (or Ekelund), but this is the best of both worlds. I hike with it and use it to process dry wood. It chops down standing dead wood like a regular axe and splits like a beast. In my opinion, it’s the best option for making fires. Don’t hesitate, it’s a great investment. Cheers
